June is Cataract Awareness Month, and The L.I.V.E. Church is committed to the whole person—spirit, soul, and body.

Cataracts are the leading cause of vision loss in the United States. Globally, they are the leading cause of blindness. This is not a rare condition; it is the most common eye disease affecting people today, and it is largely treatable.

Understand what a cataract actually is: a clouding of the eye's lens that blocks or changes the passage of light. The lens, positioned behind the pupil and iris, is responsible for focusing images onto the retina, which then transmits those images to the brain. When the lens clouds, the signal breaks down. The image blurs. What was clear becomes obscured. That might sound familiar even if it's not your natural eye.

In most cases, cataracts develop as a natural part of aging, as cells in the lens begin to cluster and cloud over time. But aging is not the only risk. There are contributing factors that many people have direct influence over:

  • Prolonged UV exposure and intense heat
  • Smoking
  • Poorly managed conditions like diabetes
  • Long-term steroid use
  • Eye injuries and existing eye diseases

Intentional care extends clarity, delays deterioration, and positions you to intervene before loss becomes permanent.

Know your risks, protect your eyes, and see your ophthalmologist. Cataracts are treatable. Cataract surgery is one of the most common elective procedures in the country, and outcomes are strong when care is sought in time.

Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Walk in what is already yours—the instruction and the resources to steward it well. Do not wait for symptoms to become crises. The L.I.V.E. Life includes taking authority over your physical health with the same intentionality you bring to your faith.

Schedule the appointment. Get the exam. Walk in clarity.
