August - National Minority Donor Awareness Month

Every August, National Minority Donor Awareness Month puts a number in front of us: over 100,000 people in this country are waiting on a life-saving organ transplant. Most of them are Black, Brown, or from another minority background. And the match they need most often comes from someone who shares their genetic background.

That means the donor registry needs to look like the people waiting on it. Right now, it doesn't.

This month exists to close that gap:

• Education on what organ, eye, and tissue donation actually involves
• Registration drives that turn awareness into action
• Health advocacy that reduces the need for transplants in the first place through prevention and disease management

L.I.V.E. means we don't look away from what our community needs. Love shows up as information. Inspiration shows up as the conversation you have with your family about your wishes. Victory shows up in a registry that finally reflects who's waiting. Empowerment shows up when you register.
